I have lived in New House Lane formerly New House Road for sixty-three years and witnessed some of the early fund raising by the residents robustly lead by Jack and Doris Boughton to build the hall we have today. This was achieved by running Whist Drives, Harvest Suppers etc. in the people's homes. At the age of eight to see the hall being built was a delight and an adventure. It was an encompassing achievement by the residents in difficult and austere times only six year after the Second World War. My father dug the first spit of the foundations and along with all my friend's fathers was still there at the end.

It cannot be overstated the achievement of raising the funds, building the hall and the continual funding of it to this day. Therefore my aims as Chairman are to retain the hall and secure the freehold if at all possible saving it for generations to come. Achieving Charity status was a significant milestone of Hilltop and achieved by hard work by the Trustees and negotiations with the Charity Commission. We are a strong Community Association and the hall is vital for the future but the people are more important and as Chairman of Hilltop and a resident of the Community the goal has to be to keep the Community together with us all working for the Community.
